Behind The Lens
Location
This photo was taken in my backyard, in the suburbs of Kansas City. I had a nest of Coopers Hawks in a tree behind us.Time
The hawks usually didn't like us getting too close. This day they happened to be on top of the wires instead of the trees, allowing me to get closer this afternoon.Lighting
This was taken with available daylight.Equipment
Shot with a Canon 5dMkii and 100mm Macro. Handheld with no flash. I didn't want to take the chance of missing the shot by running inside for a 200mm lens. Image is cropped.Inspiration
I always love taken nature and landscape since I typically do families and weddings. I don't get out like I'd like to see wildlife up close, this was a nice treat getting up so close to the yard.Editing
I only did minor adjustments to color and contrast, and cropping to bring the frame in tighter around the hawk.In my camera bag
I have two bags. A larger backpack with all lenses and flash, and a smaller bag i sling over my shoulder to keep things lighter. I typically take what makes the most sense for the situation. For families that means my 200L, 50mm 1.4, and Tamron 24-70vc with a speedlite.Feedback
Be aware of your surroundings. You don't have to be somewhere exotic to catch something interesting. There is a world going around you if you take a moment to look for it.
