This photo was taken in Glen Affric in Scotland at the head of Loch AffricTime
This was taken during an autumnal October morning in 2017. We had been staying in the area, specifically for photography. Several days worth of getting up early for sunrise had failed miserable. Our last day didn't bode well. Heavy rain, clouds as thick they could be, and not much light. Then the clouds began to break, the sun started to shine and bingo. Morning Glory as the Autumn light struck the trees and lit the valleyLighting

Heavy rain, clouds as thick they could be, and not much light. Then the clouds began to break, the sun started to shine and bingo. Morning Glory as the Autumn light struck the trees and lit the valley. The bonus was to find another photographer who just happened to be in the right place to balance the photo a bit.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon EOS 40D with a Sigma 18-125mm lens on a tripod. Cokin ND Grad filter and a polariserInspiration
Glen Affric, Scotland third week in October is where we were told to be to get amazing autumn colours. They weren't wrong. That's exactly where we were. My son had taken me away for a few days to a part of Scotland that we had never visited. A beautiful part of Scotland and parts of the remaining Caledonian Forest. Glen Affric lies to the South West of Inverness and is one of Scotland's finest places for displaying it's fine scenery. our aim was to capture the beauty of the Glen, capture Autumn colours and a bit of drama in the skies. We got all three after several days attempts. This was the last photograph taken of a three day trip and we were on the point of packing everything up and heading home when a burst of light through a fortunate gap in the cloud gave us an inkling of what was to come. A very quick dash from the car to this spot above the River Affric looking up to Loch Affric, plonked the camera on the tripod and waited for the sun to move through the clouds. Bingo. A fleeting glimpse of light, the clouds moved and the valley was flooded with light, turning the autumn colours into pure glory.Editing
This was shot in RAW, processed in Adobe Camera Raw and then into Photoshop. Cokin filters tend to leave a colour cast so a bit of work in the sky area to eliminate the magenta colour cast. Using Luminosity Masking, the contrast and saturation were given localised boosts and a wee touch of Dodge/Burn across part of the image. In my camera bag
Far too much/Not enough. No matter what's in the bag, there's always something which we carry about with us 'just in case' - my camera bag is full of such items, along with Canon 40D and 50D bodies, Canon 70-300 and a Sigma 150-600, Cokin ND Grad filters and accessories, Right angle viewfinder, hot shoe spirit level, waterproof cover (without holes). Compass, batteries, maps and a whole host of other 'essentials'. No matter what equipment is in the bag when we go out, there is always something left on the desk back at home and we usually only find out when we are about to press the shutter.Feedback
