Behind The Lens

Location

This picture was taken on The Platte River near Kearney, Nebraska.

Time

Shot from a blind from just after sundown to full dark. The sound of their arrivals and departures was almost overwhelming.

Lighting

Shooting a fairly high ISO, 1200 to 1600 because I didn't want to much noise but needed to use a fairly fast shutter speed.

Equipment

Using a Sony A6300 with my 10-15 Sony lens mounted on a tripod.

Inspiration

There were so many shots tracking from a very few birds arriving for their night roost to these huge flocks coming in.

Editing

I did tweak my exposure to lighten it up and increase contrast.

In my camera bag

I have carried a full frame Sony A7RII with an A6300 backup with a range of lenses from wide angle to mid-range telephoto. Also have a Sony RX100-III for quick shots.

Feedback

Be patient, take many many photos, timing is everything! We studied for best location for incoming flights, best specific time of the year and migration period.
