Location
The photo was taken in Rwanda in the Virunga Mountains on a Mountain Gorilla Conservation Tour whilst using a gorilla permit purchased in the UK.Time
Trekking to hopefully see Mountain Gorillas started early in the morning to allow time for the trackers to follow their tracks from the night before. After collecting my permit and trekking for as long as it takes to hopefully see a group of Gorillas. Trekking does not guarantee you will see a group but I was very privileged to photograph this particular shot about mid morning.Lighting
Most of the time the Gorilla's were in undergrowth or jungle so light was minimal.Equipment
Tripods / monopods & flash are not allowed near Gorilla's so all shots were taken hand held. Equipment is not allowed to be placed on the ground. Canon 40D 120-300 f2.8 sigma lensInspiration
The Gorilla's inspect their food just before they eat it, this gorilla caught my attention as doing what they naturally do and seemed oblivious to our group watching.Editing
Very minor crop.In my camera bag
For sport / animals I will always have my sigma 120 - 300 f2.8 lens in the bag, it's great for using the shallow depth of field ensuring the main subject is in focus whilst no details can be distinguished in the distance.Feedback
Possibly visit a local zoo or wildlife park and watch the animals behaviour to gain experience in photographing wildlife possibly Apes, Chimpanzees and Black Panther.
