Location
This photo was taken at a local ranch that raise a herd of Buffalo on the property.Time
I took this photo in the late afternoon.Lighting
It was a typical Texas hot 100+ degrees. The sun was bright and not the most optimum time to photograph.Equipment
I mounted my Sony FE 4.5-5.6 100-400mm lens onto my Sony A7r.Inspiration
There is a local ranch that raises a beautiful herd of American Bison. It is along a backroad I sometimes drive on my way home from work. I drive it occasionally in hopes that a herd will be near the fence line and I can pull over and try for some close up photos of the magnificent animals. This day I was in luck as a group of them was right along the fence line as I was hoping for. I managed to get several nice photos of them but this particular photo stood out amongst all the others I had taken.Editing
Yes I did. I felt this photo would have the best impact if I converted it to Black and white. I cropped it in tight because I loved how he had stems and twigs adhered to his hide and the gleam of his eye really drew me in. I did a little bit of work on his horn by increasing the clarity and contrast. I feel it helps tell the story of these magnificent animals. In my camera bag
I carry the Sony A6, Sony A7r and the Sony A9 in my bag along with a Sony 24-70 lens as well as the Sony FE 4.5-5.6 100-400mm. I also have a Manfrotto Monopod as wells a Manfrotto tripod when I'm using my big lens. I have a smaller Sunpack tripod for my cameras when I'm using smaller lenses.Feedback
Buffaloes are amazing creatures to see. They typically appear docile and for the most part they are. But you still want to maintain a safe distance between you and them as they can easily shift into stampede mode and start running as group. Luckily there was a fence between us for this photo and these beautiful beast were a mere 10 meters from me.
