Behind The Lens

Location

This waxwing photo was taken in Tampere very close to the lake, there are many different bird species in the area.

Time

Photo was taken in the afternoon after 2pm, on a relatively beautiful day.

Lighting

In the woods near the shore, the lighting was quite challenging ,, the sun brought good light to photograph ,, but at the same time the shadows of the trees and branches made filming quite challenging ,, while the waxwings moved in search of food from the ground ,, from the branches and tree trunks.

Equipment

This was shot on Canon Eos 700D,, lens 50-300mm.

Inspiration

My wife and I had heard from a familiar place ,, where there are several different little birds ,, some of them bigger ,, we had also read from various photography sites about the place, seen some amazing bird pictures taken there ,, so we took a day trip there, took lunch and enjoyed a rewarding trip ,, we got quite a lot good successful bird pictures.

Editing

Some images have used a bit of cropping (twigs and branches removed), maybe some brightness,, but not a lot.

In my camera bag

Normally I carry a camera and two lenses ,,, a "chair backpack" on my back, because I do a lot of photographing animals in nature ,, currently observing and photographing a beaver has been a "special project" ,, so it's easier to keep as little equipment as possible ,, because movement and events are very challenging. If you want to see my beaver pictures, you can find them in Face Book, Luonto, Yrjö Jyske

Feedback

Shooting birds and animals in some very difficult places sets different requirements ,, events are quick and surprising ,, no manual settings can always be used ,, often have to start with automatic ,, due to light ,, shadows ,, movement ,, reflections ,, backlight, ,and so on. and the most important piece of advice is ,,perseverance,,, long-term ,, good nerves ,, sometimes be like a “totem pile” when an animal walks over your boot ,, or cleans and scratches its fur right next to your foot, sometimes leaning on it.
