I took this Photo at Rietvlei Nature Reserve in South Africa, it's about 20 minutes drive from my home, that makes it awesome to go early in the mornings.Time
This Photo was one of the first Photographs I took with my new Sigma 150 - 600 mm Contemporary Lens. We where leaving a bird hide at around 10:00 the morning was pretty lucky as I was standing on a walkway from the bird hide and the berry tree was right next to me, I saw the hornbill land low in the tree and couldn't get a nice shot of it, but then it flew and landed probably about 12 feet or so from me, it basically landed saw me and took off. I could only get about 3-4 frames, but I was so happy.Lighting
The Light was pretty harsh already but with the high Shutter and F stop it came out pretty good. and The fact that the light fell on the birds face giving the eye that glint. would have loved if it would have looked right at me but still happy with the result.Equipment
This was shot with my Canon 200D, and a Sigma 160 - 500 mm Contemporary, hand held, through the viewfinder, and nothing else.Inspiration
We go out to the Nature Reserve a lot, but on this day I wanted to test the Sigma lens that we bought the day before.Editing
On this photo there wasn't a lot needed to be done, I did crop it closer to the head because it was so close and the and it was only there for about two seconds, I wanted the detail to be seen on the bird, the rest was minor tweaks of lifting the shadow, dropping a bit of the white and increasing the blacks and I lifted the Vibrance a hair, al minor adjustments. In my camera bag
Well, I had a small Camera bag at the time. but now with a slightly larger one I carry : Case Logic Era Camera Backpack Canon EOS 200D Sigma 150 - 600 mm Contemporary Canon 18 - 55 mm IS (kit lens) Canon 50 mm 1.8 STM Canon 70 - 300 mm GoPro Hero 7 Altura 58MM Complete Lens Filter Accessory Kit 3 Legged Thing Punks Travis with AirHed Neo Ball Head UURIG Camera Universal Cold Shoe Handle Hähnel 5in1 Cleaning Kit And when we do Self drive Safari drives I have a, Badger Gear Snuggfit Bean Bag Mini.Feedback
All I can say is go and take pictures, yes use a high shutter speed and try for a f-stop of 10 or so for sharper images. But the more you go and the more you practice the better you will get, I am by no means a Pro Photographer, but I enjoy going out and taking photos, so go take those photos and don't be scared to play with the settings on the camera, push your ISO to see at what value you find it expectable and then take the shot see if it needs adjustments, you will see after looking at the photo, I might have needed a but more shutter or ah my f-stop was way to low for this, practice makes perfect, go and enjoy yourself. Settings for this picture ISO2500 F/6.3 and 1/1250sec. One thing for sure, focus on the eye. ;)
