ð Kennall Vale, Ponsanooth
The flooded quarry at Kennall Vale - as the deciduous trees cling on to their last golden leaves before winter.
The woodland was home to the "Kennall Gunpowder Company" - licenced in 1811-12 to manufacture explosives for mining and quarrying.
While the factory was in production, trees were planted between the buildings to help absorb the force of a potential explosion.
Production peaked in about 1875, when they supplied most west Cornwall mines. Decline rapidly followed with the collapse of Cornish mining - finally closing in around 1910.
There are still remnants of the old industrial buildings, workings and leats dotted around the River Kennall within the woods.
