Church of Saint Anne in Liepaja

For the first time St.Anne's Church was mentioned in 1509, but then it was located in another place (Old Cemetery) and in 1560 there are reports that it has collapsed. In the current place of St. Anna's Church was built in 1597, but nothing is left of it today. The church, built in 1597, has been rebuilt several times - in 1671-1676 the wooden building was covered with bricks, in 1688-1693 the first church tower was built (the church was 24 axes long and 5 axes high at that time), after 1817-1818. In the winter of 1823, the citizens of Liepaja formed a building commission, which collected donations for the construction of a new church, and in 1823, the church tower was transformed. The church tower, which can still be seen today, is from 1872-73. city architect M.P. The new tower built by Berči for the old church - with its 60 m high tower it was the tallest building in Liepaja at that time.
