Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on my back deck, I put peanuts out almost day in the warmer weather and just watch as the jays call to each other. They let each one know the nuts are there!

Time

I took this around 10 am when I know the birds are around. It’s warming up in the day around this time.

Lighting

The natural sunlight lit up this picture. It shone on his one side , as the sun was rising in the day.

Equipment

I use my Nikon 3500 camera with 300 zoom lens, to get a closeup shot of the blue jays landing and grabbing a peanut.

Inspiration

I enjoy watching all the backyard birds that are around in the warmer Ontario weather. During the spring months especially, I see lots of babies following their parents around, learning how to feed and navigate life.

Editing

I only usually crop my photos abit to get a closer shot. Sometimes I may use some shadows and highlights to accentuate the colour that I see in person, so it shows up in the photo.

In my camera bag

I have two lenses for now my zoom lens of 300 is my favourite. It lets me take great close ups of wildlife, especially birds. I’ll use my smaller lens for wider shots , like landscapes, barns and things I like to have a larger picture of.

Feedback

The birds around my house are used to me being there, watching them grab a snack. I put treats out and just watch somedays. I enjoy seeing them swoop in to grab something. Patience plays a part with animals, they need to know I’m a safe person.
