The Nutria (Myocastor coypus), is a species of rodents with a cosmopolitan distribution, belonging to the family of Echimyidae1 or “spiny rats”, when it is not yet classified separately in the family of Myocastoridae2. This large semi-aquatic mammal, native to South America, naturalized in Asia, East Africa, North America and Europe in the 19th century to exploit its cheap fur3. All the individuals present in these regions originate from escapes or voluntary releases.
