Location
I took this photograph at Wayoh reservoir, on a bridge connecting both sides of the reservoir. It was the ideal location to capture the bridge, the reflections and the autumn colorsTime
It was a typical sunny, winters day. We'd been lucky and had a break in weather so I decided to take full advantage. It was taken just before mid-day, with the sun casting as even glow throughout the picture.Lighting
I wanted the picture to be bright so that everything in shot was seen, eg the reflections, colors etc, but didn't want it over bright so that it became to harsh and ruined the elements of the picture.Equipment
I shot this with my Nikon d3500, 18-55vr lens on a tripod.Inspiration
I love taking pictures that show reflections in the water. Recently, due to the heavy wind and rain it has been harder to take these kind of pictures. Due to the break in weather my wife and I decided to take a walk around this particular reservoir as it is know to be pretty with lovely autumn colors. When I saw this composition I knew it would be perfect to show a sunny winters day with autumn colors.Editing
Post processing I initially played with the highlights and shadows to get the overall look that I wanted. I used the brush tool to lighten and sharpen the reflections of the bridge. I also lightened the bushes to the left of the picture slightly and yet again sharpened their reflection on the water. In my camera bag
I normally always carry two bags with me. My first bad contains my Nikon d3500 and nikkor 18-55mm lens, along with my tamaron 70-300 lens and basic cleaning equipment. This bag is religiously carried with me everywhere I go, even if I don't go out specifically for photography. My second bag contains my Sigma 150-600mm lens weighing in at 2kg, another cleaning kit, my 5 Neutral density filters and a 5kg weight ( to weight my tripod in more windy conditions). I also always carry my tripod with me as well.Feedback
Try to plan in advance the picture you want to take, the weather, sunset or sunrise positions etc. This can help you prepare and help to avoid un-necessary mistakes. I also take my photography equipment out even when not going to specifically take photos, as you never know what may occur. Take your time taking the picture. Be prepared to return to the same spot if it doesn't work out the first time.
