This was taken at Smokey Hollow trail in Hamilton, Ontario. I had gone there to photograph the Smokey hollow waterfall against the fall colours. This was a scene just after the waterfall where the golden leaves and the reflection just gave it a beauty which I wanted to captureTime
I was trying to reach there in the morning before the crowd around 8 am.Lighting
There was a beautiful light streaming through the yellow leaves and the reflections in the water making it a yellow colourEquipment
This was shot with a Nikon D 850 and a 14-24mm/2.8 lens. I have used a manfrotto tripod to minimize shake as well as a Nisi polarizing filter to enhance the fall coloursInspiration
I had actually set out to take an image of fall colours. This was the first time I was experiencing fall and I was really excited about photographing a waterfall with the fall colours . But when I reached there the colours next to the fall was just ok and that’s when I saw this scene with the yellow leaves and the reflection and I wanted to capture and show that beautiful scene with everyone.Editing
I first opened the raw image in lightroom and added a bit of contrast , enhanced the colours of the leaves with the hue sliders. Then I opened up the image in photoshop and did a levels adjustment. In my camera bag
I always have my 14-24mm/f2.8 Nikki lens and my Nisi polarizing filter and my Nisi 6 stop ND filter. Additionally I have my 24-70mm/ f2.8 Nikkor lens.Feedback
To always be on a lookout for picture . I planned in this case to take a waterfall surrounded by fall colours. I reached there early to avoid the crowd but the colours weren’t great . I was a bit disappointed but just at the other side was this shot. Always be patient. Sometimes you might not be taking the image you had in mind but something even better. We just need to be open about looking for that
