Behind The Lens

Location

My family decided to take a long drive on an old country road in West Virginia. When we saw this view, we just had to stop and explore.

Time

We actually started our journey at sunset. We had to race the sun back home.

Lighting

The sun had just gone over the mountain to the right. It was a beautiful scene. Blue hour.

Equipment

The shot was taken using a canon rebel T5.

Inspiration

When we arrived at this destination, it was so beautiful, I couldn’t not capture it. I could see the beautiful fluffy clouds as low as we were high, and I love the way the road disappears behind my son.

Editing

I had just learned how to use the rgb curve channels to create a high dynamic range.

In my camera bag

I always carry my Canon T5 with a 50mm lens, and a Canon 80D with a zoom lens. I can get almost any shot I need between the two. My 50mm helps me achieve a nice creamy bokeh, and I use the wide angle lens on my 80D for more close up shots.

Feedback

Under expose to retain details in light skin tones and sky. Bring up the exposure in post processing and reduce highlights. Use an S-curve the rgb curve channels to create a beautiful high dynamic range. Adjust white balance as needed.
