Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the Portland Head Light in Maine USA, I am self taught and have about 15 years experience with product and web photography.

Time

Photo was taken mid afternoon. Had to use the time of day that I had available due to travel restraints.

Lighting

Lighting choice wasn't an option. Had to deal with the cards I was dealt. Most like the golden hour. I feel you can shoot when you want and make it work with a little knowledge any time of day.

Equipment

This photo was shot hand held with a Canon T7 18-55mm kit lens with a polarizing filter. Have been out of photography for a few years since switching jobs and previous dslr lens on old camera went bad. Just received this camera prior to my travel and haven't had time to get other lenses.

Inspiration

I love photographing lighthouses and coastal scenes. I was close to this area and had a brief opportunity to get a shot.

Editing

Very minimal post processing. Just a little clarity and lightening to pull out the highlights in the rocks.

In my camera bag

As of now I have a Canon T7 with a 18-55mm kit lens, a tripod, some ND filters, a polarizing filter, a rain cover for the camera and most importantly spare batteries.

Feedback

Don't ever let people tell you how to do what you want. Learn your camera and it's capability. The Golden hour light is not always available so work with what you have. Composition is important but also in the eye of the person taking the photo. Enjoy what you are doing at all times.
