Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo of dew drops on a rose bush whilst out on a nature walk. Nature helps clear my mind and helps me get creative.

Time

This was taken at 8am on a saturday morning. I remember waking up early to make the drive to the nature reserve. I wanted to capture the early morning things on my walk that would normally be disturbed, by the time of a late walk.

Lighting

This was taken around 30 mins after the sunrise had happened. When i took this whist facing south with the sun on my right.

Equipment

Camera Canon EOS M100 Lens model 70mm - 300mm Shutter speed 1/320 Aperture f/5.6 Focal length 300 mm ISO 1250 Tripod used No flash

Inspiration

I wanted to capture the early morning finding the things that normally disappear as the day goes on.

Editing

I used snap-seed to adjust the contrast to bring out the red colour.

In my camera bag

I normally go out with my backpack with my camera Canon EOS M100, a 70mm-300mm macro lens, a 22mm wide angle lens and a 15mm-45mm lens. The 22mm is good for landscape shots, the 70mm-300mm is good for wildlife shots. The camera is very good it has lots of settings that are preset but you do have the option to adjust the aperture and the shutter speed. I also have a light weight tripod for the more long exposure shots and it makes it easier when taking wildlife shots.

Feedback

Plan your day out a few days before check the weather, i knew that we were in for a damp morning as it had been misty the night before. This gave me the chance for photos of dew drops on the plants. I used a shallow depth of field this is to create the blurred background to make the branches to stand out more. To do this you need to get your lens to focus on the main object and nothing else. This is best achieved using manual focus.
