River Wye
Monmouthshire - Gloucestershire border
October 2020
I had qualms of apprehension about this trip but it felt like a last chance before an almost certain circuit-breaker lockdown. On this basis, I allowed my stoicism to be as bleak as the virologists’ forecasts and, let’s not forget, those from Karen, Facebook’s chief expert. So, I got into the car and drove on the A419, A417, around Gloucester and on the M50, with one thing in mind: how not to get mesmerised by the rustling sound of yellow-red-brown leaves underfoot this time and spot hidden dog turds.
Two countries, two counties, a tidal river forming a natural border and, in the midst, a lovely market town. The atmosphere is now imbued with copious amount of humidity and temperatures are plummeting. The weather has taken a turn and the beautiful sight of iridescent nature is but a harbinger of winter, when everything scattered aground will fade into oblivion. This photo was taken upon cresting Symonds Yat Rock. It overlooks the tidal river Wye and the magnificent woodlands along its banks.
There are hectic weeks at work ahead of me and testing, if not agonising, times for a nation with hands thrown in the sky and knee-deep in chewed up nails. On the tide of government news reeled in all around the clock, people are awash with fear and uncertainty is nowhere near settled. This mattered little to me last weekend though. Sensor had been cleaned, lenses dusted and calibrated, tripod sturdy. The rest was business as usual.
My heartfelt thanks to Punch House for tolerating me for the second time as well as their hospitality, the quality of which can’t be overstated.

Cheers Keith! I had a very busy, albeit relaxed at the same time, weekend in Monmouth.

Impressively beautiful!! The shrubs in the foreground make it especially interesting, they lead the eye all around the picture, back to them, and back around again... A perfect composition Mick!

Thank you Kristina! The sky wasn't as favourable as I would have liked (early morning), but the view below was the just desert for my efforts. I had been looking forward to this for a while.

Cheers, Steve! This is the Symonds Yat Rock viewpoint, one you should visit one day.
