Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in my front yard garden, being creative and having what I could do with this photo in my mind. Getting it back to my computer and making the photo I saw in my mind.

Time

It was taken more or less mid day in 2012, I think it was just after a rain spell or just after watering the garden I saw it grabbed my camera and took this photo. This photo was taken at about 17:00 in the afternoon, just a bit of a struggle trying to use only natural lighting.

Lighting

Nothing really special just used pop up flash for a bit of lighting fill and effect of the droplets on the flower. Natural lighting was a bit to low for what I had in mind for the photo.

Equipment

This was taken with my Nikon D90, 18-55 Kit lens. Camera setting were: manual, f/5.6, Shutter 200, ISO 200.

Inspiration

Always on the look for something different it happened to catch my eye and had already seen what I wanted to do with this photo. I like to take photos of flowers, insects, wild life and nature, always looking for the unseen and unexpected photo. Looking for the little things that the average person would not look for.

Editing

Yes a simple black and white layer over the color layer. Then simply cut out or erased over the droplets and yellow center to create this photo. Then just a bit of cropping to take out what I did not want.

In my camera bag

Nikon D 90 primary Nikon D 3000 back up Nikon 2x 18-55 kit lenses, Nikon 55-200 kit lens, Nikon 35-70, Nikon 28-80, Nikon 80-200 F2.8, Nikon 50mm F1.8, Sigma 70-300, Sigma EF-610 DG Super Speed light

Feedback

Even though you see something every day there will come a time when that object will jump out and speak to you, take this photo every day I would look at it and it was just plain and on this day I saw what the water had done and had to take the photo seeing my end photo moments after taking it. I would say just take a few photos and if it is still not working take a break and try again, try to have the end image in mind while taking it. Try not to do to much post editing some times less is more, this photo is proof of that. I would be more than will to help some one who would like to try this.
