Behind The Lens

Location

I took a holiday for a few days in Pilanesberg in 2013, it was late in the afternoon on my last day and I looked back across the plains and I saw the three elephants walking.....and I knew I had my photo.

Time

I took the photo in the late afternoon roughly about 4pm in the afternoon, it was winter and everything was pretty dry....

Lighting

It was just natural lighting and the sun was out in full.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3100 with my tamron 70-300mm lens. I braced the shot on the car window.

Inspiration

I love nature, and the opportunity to see the elephants in the wild was amazing. To be able to capture a family of elephants with their tales all swinging in the same direction and walking in the formation of small to large was mind blowing.

Editing

Yes I always adjust the highlights on a photo and sharpen the image. With this one I adjusted the contrast to make the elephants more prominent.

In my camera bag

I always carry two cameras with me. I carry my Nikon D3100 with my macro lens attached and I have now bought a Canon SX 50 HS super telephoto camera for the zoom capabilities.

Feedback

Patience. Capturing that special image is worth more than words can ever experience.
