Location
This photo is taken inside our classroom (yes, you've read it right haha). We figured to take advantage of the plain chic wall of our classrooms on a weekend and rearranged the whole room then did our thing. :DTime
It took us half of the day to set up all the necessary preparation we wanted to achieve the look, outfit changes, makeup, and the shoot. We started early in the morning to take advantage of the sunlight as it only enters the room during the mornings only. It's prolly around 8-11 PM in the noon after we've ended. :DLighting
Proud to say that all of it is natural. Kinda hard to manipulate but somehow we made it work and achieve the look. We also planned for a natural and cheeky look which would totally make sense to use natural lighting and the ambiance of the room only.Equipment
I used a beginner entry camera, Nikon D5300 with a 35 MM 1.8 D Nikkor Lens and my trusty old tripod that is probably older than me HAHA That's all about itInspiration
The tones are heavily inspired by some famous photographers that I look up to, namely The Mango Street Lab and Rose Marie Yang. These neutral, earthy, and nude colors are really what were aiming for. Also, the concept is inspired by the works of Alex Stoddard but the idea was totally original or at least didn't came from someone if ever there's an existing concept like this. Thought to have a conceptual/fine-art -ish concept but not really something out there but totally whimsical.Editing
Yes, obviously, the frames and the hands coming out were post-processed. Also the color tones and some adjustment on the basics - exposure, white balance, highlights and etc.In my camera bag
I normally shoot with minimal equipment as much as possible because (1) I like to change location a lot, (2) not that much of techy person to set up things as fast, (3) I shoot like a gymnast HAHAHA I literally develop my flexibility through photography alone so light and less equipment would less of a hassle. So with that said, my camera bag only consists of my camera, 2 lenses, some sd cards, extra battery, manuals (more like cheat sheets hehe), and some wiring that I haven't used EVER before HAHAHA (maybe will take them off after this).Feedback
Just have a clear goal on what you're going to achieve, and anchor all details from lighting to makeup to these ideas so that everything will be coherent. A mood board would also help, not just you but also the model on the concept you want to achieve because in the end, its a teamwork between the model and photographer to achieve these ideas, without the other role (even in self portraits and landscapes), there would be no photo or at least not the goal you're achieving (so either you'll not be proud of it :/).
