Location
We were travelling back from a bike race and this hilltop in Gloucester is a great place to catch the sunset. We naturally rushed to the place with the light as beautiful as it was. The location was Birdlip Hill.Time
19.27 25th March 2018 was a memorable day bike racing in Wales with a long journey home. Stopping off at Birdlip Hill on the way home was perfect as the sunset was brilliant. These two rushed over to the edge and were mucking about unaware of what I was doing - I hand held the camera and went for it.Lighting
I don’t use flash much and the natural lighting was stunning with beautiful warmth. The resulting silhouette was pretty crisp. I really like the bright edge around Laurie’s trousers .Equipment
Canon 5D my III CANON lens EF 70-200mm f/2.8 IS. I find tripods inhibiting, when photographing people doing unpredictable things I need to be able to move around.Inspiration
Lydia is always a great subject to photograph, full of life and exuberance. Unstoppable and a joy. I always get my camera out on this location but having those two mucking about right there was perfect...Editing
There was practically no post processing - I often find the best photos require very little. Just a bit of brightening as far as I rememberIn my camera bag
Canon 5D my III 3 canon lenses - 17-40, 24-70, 70-200 EF Overtrousers for getting low down, spare batteries/cards, fingerless leather mitts, insurance info. Water, biscuits.Feedback
Always have your camera bag with you, on this occasion I was returning from a photography shoot so I was ready. Have people in the photo who don’t care what you are doing so you can just get on with the shooting. Have fun and forget tripods - just use a fast shutter speed.
