Behind The Lens

Location

I very much became "one with nature" while this beautiful, perfectly posed butterfly wanted my attention in the Mark Twain National Forest somewhere between Pomona, Missouri and Willow Springs, Missouri.

Time

I remember waking up in the passenger side of my 1999 Z71 probably around mid to late morning wondering why my friend never drove us home while I was asleep in my truck. Not even an hour and a half later, I spotted this butterfly while exploring for the "perfect shot".

Lighting

When it comes to lighting and phones, taking photos during the daytime was the the only way to go at that time. Now phones have pro mode which is very nice.

Equipment

This was actually shot on a Samsung phone I used to have. I believe it was a Sumsung Galaxy S6 or maybe even the LG G3 phone I used to have. Nothing other than that was used to get the shot.

Inspiration

While exploring, I knew the "perfect shot" I was looking for was around me somewhere. I was in the forest. I was in awe from this butterfly just sitting right in front of me, WANTING to be seen. WANTING to feel beautiful. Needing me to notice it.. and for a reason...

Editing

After taking this picture, I took it through PicsArt on my phone to slightly change the sharpness and shadowing.

In my camera bag

At the time this was taken (2018), I had just lost everything camera related I owned so the "equipment in my bag" was simply my phone in my purse. And to this day unfortunately, that is still the same.

Feedback

After watching the butterfly right in front of me, I realized I was supposed to be right where I was right at that time. My friend and I followed the butterfly only to get lost in the scary yet gorgeous and confusing forest until nearly the evening time. The insect lead me to- and through- an adventure that, when over with, led to my friend and I being rescued on a random dirt road by another friend's friend who died not too long after that encounter. I say I was supposed to be right there at that moment because I dreamt of being in that forest. Sometimes even if you don't know what &/or why you're doing whatever it is you're doing. It can still lead to something. In my case, a great shot from something leading me to getting lost and saved by a friends friend. You just gotta do "it".. Whatever your "it" is. Go with your gut. Get those shots. Get those memories.. Those stories.
