Behind The Lens
Location
This was taken in a hidden gem of a spot I found in Athens GA in the river that trailed through a forest.Time
I took this one early in the afternoon. When the sun was almost right overhead. With us being in the woods the sunlight cascades with magical streaks through the trees and leaves creating a soft spot light effect.Lighting
It was natural light. We had a theme that was guiding the session originally but I told her to just be herself and enjoy the sun and the water while soaking in the beauty of this location. She naturally found the light of the sun and basked in it.Equipment
Canon rebel t6i with my 18-135mm lens. No tripod, no flashInspiration
The model was my muse. We set off with an idea in mind. She's a young mom who's never had pictures done of herself. She self criticized and was hesitant to do the shoot but once we got started everything fell into place. She started feeling confident and beautiful and with that magic happened. She was my inspiration. I wanted to show her how amazingly beautiful and strong she was and I like to think I did that for her.Editing
I didn't have to do much with it. I just toned down a little of the light on her face and amped up the saturation to make her dress pop and that was pretty much it.In my camera bag
For water sessions such as this I bring my smaller bag and usually have to leave it on land somewhere so nothing gets damaged. It is only my camera, my lens. A water proof just incase my client feels super adventurous, and some smoke bombs.Feedback
Take your time and play with your surroundings. Look at the back of your camera constantly and see what little tweaks can be made to add that extra umph. But also give your client sometime to just be themselves. My best images are typically my candid shots
