Location
I took this photo at the Folly Beach fishing pier in Folly Beach, SC.Time
It was the end of the day when I arrived on Folly Beach the clouds were moving and the Sun was setting. It was a windy night and there were only a few people on the beach.Lighting
The lighting was cloudy even.Equipment
I used a Canon 5dMk4 with a 24 to 105 lens, mounted on a tripod and used a ten stop ND filter. The image was exposed for 2 1/2 minutes and to ensure no vibration I used a Pluto trigger to activate the shutter.Inspiration
This was part of the Tripod challenge from the 52frames list. I had spent the day before this use the same setup photographing traffic in the middle of the city of Charleston, SC and while doing that it occurred to me to try the water.Editing
As if reflected in the title this image is a composite. While I did some basic editing I did add the birds in flight and the lightning strike. I was happy with the image as it was I felt it just needed other creative elements. The birds and the lightning were added used Luminar 4 software. In my camera bag
Honestly, my camera bag is not big enough for everything I carry with me. I have a large pickup truck in which I carry equipment that could possibly be used for a wide variety of photographic situations. With that being said I do have a camera bag the has an assortment of lenses including Canon, Sigma, and Tamron. I carry two camera bodies, Canon 5DMk4, and a 7DMk2. I also have a Canon 40D that has been modified for Infrared photography.Feedback
If you're trying to capture a similar image try to shoot using your style of photography. I often look at other photographers' work for inspiration but I'm just looking for a basic idea because I like to create images with my own style that others haven't done. Don't let your inspiration come just from photographers the world has plenty of artists that provide fuel for your creative juices.
