Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo when I was travelling in the Andes mountains in Peru on our way up to Lake Humantay at the altitude of about 4,000 meters above sea level.

Time

This was mid day. We decided to do a day hike from Cusco. It’s a 43km trek.

Lighting

This was a quick shot for me as always being in motion trekking up the mountain so didn’t really have time to think about lighting except that I was trying not to have the sun facing me too much.

Equipment

I had my Nikon D3000 with me everywhere. Aperture f/2.5?ISO 200?Shutter 1/4000?Focal Length 280/10 Nothing else.

Inspiration

The guy that’s curving the edge was a bit behind us and I took the shot so it looks like it’s a steep drop. A lot of pictures I took was actually looking back on where we just came from. On hikes (especially when in a group) it’s easy to only look forward so it’s easy to say I was the one at the end of the line when walking.

Editing

I didn’t do much post processing in Lightroom apart from exposure and white levels.

In my camera bag

It’s normally just my camera with extra batteries. Sometimes I bring a small tripod if I know I’ll be shooting when it gets dark but try to carry as little as possible and I find I don’t need too much.

Feedback

When travelling the Americas (specially South America) prepare for different kinds of weather. Always have your camera ready in your hand by your side as the perfect shot can come by anytime. Don’t be shy but be respectful when photographing in others cultures.
