Having survived 2 cotton mouth snakes bites, 2 weeks apart, years of sporadic seizures, birth of one pup, and over a decade of love, my mom's dachshund, Libby, passed away in August 2018. She died peacefully sleeping in my mom's arms at home, and in the presence of her pack mate-puppy daddy,Toby, and the only pup she ever birthed, Daphne, and as for the humans, my son, and myself surrounded Libby as her earthly journey concluded and closed. Once she had died, we gave her a proper burial in a special area of my mom's backyard, where Libby, Toby, and Daphne claimed as thier territory, had dug a multitude of camouflaged holes perfectly sized for a human foot to fit in potentially causing injury, loved to romp around in the mildly overgrown grass, taking the occasionally rest to wallow around on thier backs in the cool grass! This photograph is of my son squatting down at Libby's graveside and the marker where she merged back with earth and mother nature to continue the circle of life! I caught a very raw, and emotionally distraught 6 year old boy (he is 8 now) as he struggled to process his grief and desperately searching within himself the ability to cope and accept this painful lesson of lose through death; his facial expression portrays his emotional bombardment and his helpless search for understanding amoung the chaos of mourning.
(He did his grieving in a healthy, safe, and efficent manner over Libby's death and is doing well today!!)
