Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at the summit of independence mountain

Time

I arrived at the trailhead at 3 pm and summited the mountain at 5pm, the sun was setting behind me naturally giving deep shadows and bright highlights

Lighting

I left to climb the mountain at 3pm, the forest was on fire 50 miles away unbeknownst to me. When i summited at 5 pm the smoke was filling the air, and the sunsetting was giving the range an ethereal quality

Equipment

Sony alpha a7r ii, with a sony ilce 7rm2 at f/16 1/2500 35mm iso 1250

Inspiration

The summit view was terrifying with the edge being so steep the picture was an composition of a sunset, forest fires, and a terrifying edge bellow

Editing

I used a tone curve to brighten the highlights and darken the shadows i also used the dehaze algorithm to dehaze the house

In my camera bag

I always carry my Vivitar mini tripod and alpha a7r ii to capture these beautiful shots

Feedback

Don't shy away from rough conditions, often they make the most unique photos
