Location
This is a recent photo using a hibiscus blossom from my own backyard, which is where I've been doing most of my photography during the COVID pandemic. Luckily, this hibiscus bush blooms almost perpetually here in Florida. This was taken with a Galaxy S9Plus phone--my first real attempt to use it for serious photography. You'll see other photos from my Pandemic Files in my profile, with more to be uploaded.Time
Late afternoon.Lighting
Natural light coming from a window on the left side of the photo. I always try to stick to the natural stuff.Equipment
A Galaxy S9Plus, handheld, shot at F2.4, 1/60. No flash.Inspiration
My backyard has been serving as a "safe spot" for my photography during the COVID pandemic. I've learned SO much over this time period because I've had more time on my hands to play!Editing
Routine, minimal post-processing (exposure, contrast, color, and perhaps a bit of cropping). Nothing fancy. In my camera bag
Nowadays, I've added my Galaxy S9Plus phone, but most of my photos have been taken with several models of Canon DSLR's (the original Eos Digital Rebel, T6i, or 7D) with two Canon kit lenses and plus a Canon zoom long lens capable of up to f300. The vast majority of my photos are handheld; I developed the skill while doing nature photography on repeated Alaskan cruise trips where you hardly ever get to stand still.Feedback
Don't be afraid to get in close to your subject. It helps to have a good understanding of ISO, exposure, and shutter speed in order to predict how changing one factor may influence the other settings. And don't be afraid to experiment--it's only digital information, not film!
