Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken on the Minnesota River, in Shakopee, Minnesota. The little park area, Memorial Park, attracts many types of ducks throughout the year.

Time

This was taken just after sunrise with the light just right on her feathers.

Lighting

I waited until after sunrise so that lighting would compliment the duck and show off the definition of her colors.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D3200.

Inspiration

My dad is waterfowl carver and was looking for more intricate designs for his decorative decoys. I set out looking for ducks striking a pose and something different other than the typical decoy pose.

Editing

Yes, I added more definition and clarity through Photoshop.

In my camera bag

Usually I carry a tripod, glass sphere, my Canon Rebel T71 and Nikon D3200. In addition, I always have an assortment of filter lenses on me.

Feedback

Wait for the light to be just right. Sunrise and sunset are key times of day because it's flattering for everyone and animals. Don't be afraid to change up your angles get up close to your subject.
