Location
I'm very lucky to have a Wetlands centre virtually on my doorstep in Washington, Tyne and Wear, with lots of varied bird areas.Time
I was using a couple of free hours in the early afternoon when this juvenile heron wandered out of the reeds literally walking over my legs as i sat on the grass watching a family of Coots, I think this Heron had his eye on the chicks. Having no luck with the Coots the heron turned his attention to a small pond and as i watched he got his eye on something, a quick stalk and a dart of the razor sharp beak and he came up with this small fish.Lighting
natural light on a sunny dayEquipment
I shoot with a Sony A7iii and A9, this was taken with the Sony 85mm 1.8 I believe, taken handheld.Inspiration
The opportunity presented itself and it was just a case of right place right time with some great lighting and a fabulous subject.Editing
Very simple edits, slight straightening and clarity boost, the camera and lens combination is superbly sharp. In my camera bag
when shooting wildlife i tend to carry the A7ii and A9 with a sigma 150-600, 85mm and 105mm lenses, a fairly heavy combo but capable of some superb shots.Feedback
Be patient, visit areas regularly to get an idea of what wildlife is regularly there and most of all enjoy being out there doing photography, sometimes you get lucky and get a shot like this other times you might have to be content with shooting birds in the distance, but every trip will show you something new.
