Description
The brown flower ice is a fairly large flower ice with a female and a dog of different colors. The female is completely red from above. The dog's front back is black and the cover wings are yellowish brown. The male is slightly smaller than the female. The thighs of both sexes are black, but otherwise the legs are yellowish brown. The color of the legs is a good hallmark difference to a slightly smaller amount of charm flower. Size 12-18 mm.

Habitat and lifestyles
The host tree species of the larvae are pine and spruce, in whose dead, rather rotting and moist wood the larvae live. Larvae are found in decaying stumps and fallen trunks. The larval development lasts at least two years.

When can be detected
Adults are on the move from July to early September. Dogs visit flowers often, females are less likely to be seen.
