Behind The Lens

Location

This was taken in Ljubljana, the capitol of Slovenia. It was teken in the summer of 2019 when there was no Covid-19 and we could move aroud and meet new people without any worries. This is one of my favourite spots in the city. On top of the hill in the city center there is the castel and honestly the best spot to look at the sunset with your firends.

Time

This was taken at sunset, so I guess it was around 8 pm (it was summer time).

Lighting

I love the colors you get when the sun sets, especially the soft pastels. I really like when the colors lose their intensity after the sun is behind the hill/horizon. That for me makes the lighting really soft and in a sense magicle.

Equipment

I used the sony a6000 with the kit lense (16-50mm). It's a really light weiht and good for travel.

Inspiration

Well, you can see a groupe of people who are enjoying a beautiful scene of nature. I don't know the people in the photo personaly, but I like to think it's a group of individuals who met on their backpacking trip through Europe and still keep in touch to this day. I see this photo as a reminder of what life was before the pandemic, but not only that I also see it as motivation to do my part, so we can go and create a new normal where that kind of life is possible.

Editing

Since the photo was taken after the sun has set, we get a dim foreground and really bright sky. IN order to bring some light and dimention to the forground I adjusted the highlights, shadow, clarity, vibrance and sauturation. Ad thena to bring back the natural colors I adjusted the temperture and tint.

In my camera bag

I always have extra bateries... that is a must. And a small tripod. I use my prime lense, but I also always cary a wide zoom lense.

Feedback

Photography to me is about captouring life and its beauty in different ways. So I would say find what inspires you and capure the story you want to tell.
