I took this photo during a trip to west Texas last summer. Stayed in Terlingua, Texas for a few days to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. Very beautiful place with tons of wonderful photo opportunities.Time
I took this photo at 6:51am. I had been attempting astrophotography the night before, and decided to wake up early the next day to watch the sunrise. We stayed in the camp with a bunch of tipis, and the way the light presented itself looked perfect behind the pitch black tipis.Lighting
I wanted the image to have lots of contrast and I wanted detail in the sky. The colors were all there when I shot the photo, although I did shift my white balance I bit before I took the shot to see how it affect the colors.Equipment
I brought a $30 tripod with me since I was paranoid about my primary one getting stole or broken during the trip. Used a GH5S for this shot, with it's less than ideal 12MP sensor. Still love the shot, just wish I had my A7III back then.Inspiration
I always love photos of silhouettes against a beautiful sky, this was my first crack at it. While really do love this photo, I think it was mostly being at the right place at the right time!Editing
I brought the colors up and blacked the tipis a bit more, just to add the punchy contrast to it. Editing was fairly simple to be honest. In my camera bag
When I took this photo, I had my GH5S, a cheap tripod I bought maybe 8 years ago, and my 12-60mm f2.8-4 lens. On a normal day I'll have my A7III, a 24-105mm f4 lens, and maybe a flash if needed. I like to keep light, as I usually move around a lot for a majority of my work.Feedback
If you're going for the silhouette look, expose for the sky. Pretty simple in execution honestly, I just brought up my shutter speed since it was still pretty dark out. The special thing with this photo is the sky, which I had no control over. Just luck!
