Location
The photo was taken in the garden in World Bee Day.Time
It was mid-morning with sun directly on the flower.Lighting
The clarity of the image and the strength of colour relied on a direct light source. It had alway been the intention to create an image where a dominant flat colour made up a large proportion of the composition.Equipment
I used a Canon 5D mark III with a sigma 200mm prime and an extension tube. The image was shot using natural light and was hand held.Inspiration
I love shooting bees and given the day it was worth looking for a picture of a bee.Editing
I use photoshop to sharpen, crop and balance but this image was pretty straight forward. In my camera bag
I work in theatre so I carry two bodies - a Canon 5D and a 1D plus lens ranging from 18mm through to 400mm. For most of the nature shots I use a 300mm macro or a 200mm prime with tubes.Feedback
Patience. If you keep still and wait insects and birds will always perform. Also be adaptable, you don’t always get what you set out to achieve but you will always get something if you look and you wait.
