Behind The Lens

Location

Columbia Bottoms Conservation Area, at the confluence of the Mississippi and Missouri Rivers.

Time

Sunset

Lighting

The clouds made a huge difference in the finished product. It helped that it had rained earlier that day.

Equipment

I took this photo with my Galaxy Note 9. I'm super impressed with how well it captures images.

Inspiration

I have wanted for the last several years to go capture a field of sunflowers; they are such a happy flower! This year I finally made it. Determination definitely paid off.

Editing

I recently learned about an editing app called Snapseed, and wanted to try it out on this photo. I wanted a natural look that inspired the awe I felt looking over these stunning fields. I toned the sky down just a tad, and sharpened the field. I love the way it turned out!

In my camera bag

I normally shoot with my Sony, and I had shot a few with it during this venture. Then I did the same shots with my phone. The ones from my camera did not come close to the stunning image I was able to capture on my phone in this setting. I may play around with those images to see if I can pull more from them.

Feedback

My best advise on capturing your own field of flowers is to get there early if it's a popular spot, and pay attention to the sky. It can make or break a stunning picture.
