Been to Norway, Croatia, Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, Switzerland, Croatia, Slovenia, France, Gran Canaria, India, Germany, Sweden and few more nations.. but never have I come across a place so magical and addictive as Iceland. A place truly magical! Truly indescribable with words, pictures do some justice - but the true extent of this nation's brilliance can only be experienced personally. Pristine, a bit like James Cameron's Pandora - Icelandic people live in harmony with Nature, not by pillaging it. Go there if you havent yet. Make this the one nation you cannot miss in your travel list. You wont be disappointed - quite the contrary, you will feel enlightened.

Behind The Lens

Location

I captured this photo at Dettifoss waterfalls, Iceland. This view is from the west side view point. We stoppped for a coffee at a local B&B on the way, and were fortunate to get some insights from a localite on why we should go for the west side instead of the east side view point. The sheer power and awe of this watefall can be felt from up close on the west side. It takes a few seconds to digest the strength of this amazing beauty before you even want to look into the camera.

Time

It was shot before sunset, but in the evening. So the sky was still blue, but with the clouds moving fast it was a good background for the image anyways.

Lighting

To be honest, the lighting was not ideal in this shot. I don't remember where the sun was, but I remember thinking I should have come during sunrise.

Equipment

Nikon D5100, Tamron 10-24 Di II VC HLD, Tripod. No filters

Inspiration

I wanted this image to show the power and size of the waterfall. In my opinion, the dirty & muddy rapid waters, the drop, the mist created by the water slapping on the rocks and length of the river before it drops are all important components to show the size & power of this magnificent beauty. So the goal was to try to capture it all in one shot with the limited time and equipment constraints.

Editing

Well, I do most of my post processing in lightroom. Just simple highlight, shadows, contrast corrections with some graduated filter for the skíes.

In my camera bag

A wide angle lens, a prime lens and a telephoto with some ND filters, Polarizers & tripod.

Feedback

Keep trying. Keep improving, do not let others define the purpose of your creation. This is art! There is no right or wrong. The only thing that matters is you are happy with your creation.
