Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken while I was in college studying for my bfa in photography. I was exploring different genres of photography in order to see what suited me most.

Time

This was one of our many late night sessions after everyone had gone home. I helped operate the photography facilities as part of my financial aid package and thus had access to them after hours. Some of the best times of my life.

Lighting

Since I was a fledgling photography student at the time , just about everything about this photo was experimental. This was taken with studio stobes and if I remember correctly, it was a three light setup.

Equipment

I believe these were taken with equipment borrowed from the school. Canon 80d and speedotron stobes

Inspiration

I was still very much in an experimental state when this photo was taken. I had just started to explore photography in earnest and was trying different things to see what spirited me. This series was inspired by classic fine art nude paintings.

Editing

I had edited this image when it was first taken and wasn't too thrilled with the outcome. I later rediscovered the image during an archiving session and decided to give the edit another go. What resulted is the image you currently see and one that I am in love with.

In my camera bag

My camera bag now contains my Sony a7ii and a Canon fd to Sony e mount adapter. Lenses are fd 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 75-200 2.8, and a 38-85 2.8.

Feedback

Practice, Practice, Practice. Find a model that patient and passionate about her art so you can take your time and experiment with different things to see how it affects your image. Theoretical knowledge is great but knowing how to practically implement it even better.
