Location
The photo was taken in Rancabayawak, Gedebage, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. At that time, the second year I was photographing birds.Time
06:30 AM The weather is clear. I think it's good for photographing birds. I get ready to go to the location which is 15 minutes from my house. Arriving at the location, I observed their morning life without disturbing them. 7:30 AM, I started taking pictures. Many pictures that I took. 8:56 AM I get this moment. This photo was taken on Sunday, January 5, 2014.Lighting
For this photo, I don't use extra light. Sunlight is the only light source for this photo. When photographing this, my position is in the north of the object, the light coming from the left.Equipment
For this photo, I use the Canon EOS 60D with a Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM lens. There is no other equipment used.Inspiration
I only took pictures of what happened at the location. I must not disturb the object for any reason. Because I had observed, I knew that the birds that left would definitely return. I saw a bird returning with a branch in the beak and awaited by a couple in the nest (bamboo clump), this illustrates the meaning of faithfullness and depicts a pair of lovers building a household, then I photographed this moment.Editing
Because I do not know what will happen next in a second, so to photograph the bird, I expand a little from the framing I want, so as not to lose the moment and the object does not come out of the frame. For the framing that I want, I cropped. Because the results of this photo are rather pale, I adjust the brightness and contrast. In my camera bag
Since 2018, I have always been prepared with 7D Mark II, Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM for photos and videos, Canon EF 8-15mm f/4L USM Fisheye for landscapes, and Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM for far objects. Tripod and flash light if needed. So I'm ready to photograph any object, if it's interesting for me.Feedback
Based on my experience, to photograph birds. Technically and ethically: 1. use telephoto lenses so that you don't need to be close and disturb them; 2. using camouflage clothes that are the same as the color of their habitat so they are not suspicious; 3. don't use fragrances, because that will let them know something is strange; 4. move slowly and don't pursue, because that will stress them out, you have to wait; 5. don't use flash, because that might surprise them and they leave; 6. don't disturb their lives, such as moving a nest, because it will damage their habitat; 7. don't leave trash and leftovers behind, because that will change their diet and life; 8. stay alert, prioritize personal safety. Good luck.
