Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken in the summer of 2020 during shooting for my tenth photo album Remedy. It was taken in Toledo, Ohio alongside the former New York Central mainline railroad track(s). Featured is a westbound Norfolk Southern manifest freight train.

Time

The time of the day was late afternoon or early evening, I believe somewhere between 5 pm and 7 pm I can't quite remember. It was on a Saturday after spending the day with my girlfriend, we took a walk down to a park that is trackside to get some landscape shots. Just happened to be that the train was going by at a similar time.

Lighting

The lighting is natural I did edit the picture to be darker black and white, however, the original is in an neutral black and white.

Equipment

The camera is my Fujifim XP 130. No other equipment was used.

Inspiration

Just looking at the fence and noticing the perspective of some of the shots I had been taking I thought it would present a unique shot. I have shot other trains in the past, so it was truly one opportunity to get the "perfect" shot.

Editing

Editing through either PhotoStudio or FOTOR, but it was already naturally how I liked it so I believe I just made the black and white more pronounced.

In my camera bag

Normally I have my Nikon S1 with additional lenses, but in this case, I only had my Fuji on me. Sometimes I also carry my Fuji Polaroid upright camera.

Feedback

When shooting any railroad-themed shots I found that like any moving object, you must have the camera set to take multiple shots. You'll get the best result in doing so, and it will give you the opportunity in reviewing to find the one you like the best. I usually shoot at 30 frames per second but if it's really moving I'd recommend 60 just to be safe.
