A Coneflower's structure before it blooms is a nice cotrast to a background of Coreopsis.

Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken just outside my front door in a perennial flower garden including Coreopsis and coneflowers.

Time

The late afternoon sun filters through the large oak to the west.

Lighting

The afternoon sun creates definition between the edge of the flower and the floral background.

Equipment

This was shot with my Android 8 phone.

Inspiration

The structure of coneflowers before they fully open has always fascinated me. The contrast between the green flower and the background caught my eye.

Editing

I used one of the phone cameras filters that just added a touch of vibrancy to the image.

In my camera bag

Normally I bring out my 100 mm lens for something like this, especially if there are bees or butterflies. I decided to try the phone camera first just to see what I could accomplish.

Feedback

Go with the camera you have on hand. You may lose the light assembling the "right" equipment. The best lens in the world won't do any better without the light.
