I have good luck the last four or five years on the summer solstice shooting the stars and it being clear. I was fortunate again this year with clear skies and low wind. I headed to Higgins Lake North State Park in Michigan to shoot the night sky. I was so happy when I arrived the sky was lit up with stars and the water was flat. I started shooting and five minutes in I heard a noise to my left, i pointed my flashlight that direction and saw a skunk needless to say I took off from there back to my car. I was upset wondering if the night would be a bust. I shot a few frames from the parking lot then decided to head out again hoping I wouldn't run into the skunk. I spent about an hour and a half shooting different areas of the shoreline and all of a sudden behind me I heard a rustling in the leaves. I quickly shined my light back and saw either a raccoon or a porcupine. I made some noise and it scattered away. I was glad it wasn't a skunk. Soon after that I took this shot and was very pleased at the way the stars reflected in the water and the tree branches framed the milky way. Enjoy
