The picture was taken in the Akatarawa Valley, New Zealand on a damp and drizzly late Autumn Saturday afternoon. I was laying on a length of cardboard on the wet Grass. Jacqueline the model in the picture was quite cold....but you wouldn't pick it from the photo. ITime
This was part of a larger photo shoot for Hearts and Roses jewelry which started around 2:30pm.Lighting
The lighting was very flat with a dull cloud white out. It was gorgeous because it provided a soft overall direct light with very little shadow.Equipment
This was shot on my trusty Canon 1DXii and 200mm/f1.8 telephoto prime. I absolutely love this lens for its sharpness, color and bokeh. I get asked quite often why I lug around such a big heavy lens.....but the results speak for themselves. If you find a decent one, and the price is right....grab it!Inspiration
The photo shoot took place in an old large barn on a farm. However, when this necklace was put on Jacqueline to model, I remembered seeing some trees on the property where the color of the autumn leaves were almost a direct color match. We also had the shawl which complimented the color of her dark blue gown beautifully. So we all braved the elements and went outside to get this shotEditing
Very little. I cropped in ever so slightly and raised the white highlights just a little in PS. That was pretty much itIn my camera bag
I try to plan my shoots before hand and as such, carry what I need. The glass I lean towards and use is big and heavy e.g. Canon 200mm / f1.8, Canon 85mm / f1.2, sigma 105mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2. My bag will have my 1DXii and 5Dsr bodies, some spare cards, batteries, and Polarizing/ND filters.I usually attach the chosen lens' for the shoot so they're not in the bag. Again depending on circumstances, time of day etc. I may take a mono pod or tri pod.Feedback
Think outside the square and always take in and remember what you have seen on the way to the shoot. Don't be afraid to get wet and dirty. Although the Camera and lens are weather sealed I still wrapped them in a towel when I was on the ground. Also don't get put off by not being that close to your subject with a 200mm lens you are some way away to shout directions to the model.
