Location
I took this photo in the beautiful city of Laguna Beach. Luckily while exploring, we found a hidden area called Victoria Beach that has an actual castle nearby. I’m a sucker for rare findings.Time
Surprisingly it was mid-day even though it looks overcast. I was expecting more sun as I drove down there, but this chilly/crisp, salty weather played in our favor afterall—made for a great photo sesh!Lighting
The beach naturally has good lighting, however I was actually expecting for it to be brighter so initially I was bummed... but little did I know the overcast would add a different type of lighting I ended up really liking especially when it came down to editing.Equipment
This was shot on a Canon Rebel T6i with a standard 18-55mm lens. I used no tripod, flash, or anything additional. I like to shoot with minimal equipment thus the candid shots come out better on my end when it’s just myself and the camera alone.Inspiration
I love the ocean. It makes me feel so small, so humble, but yet empowered. I feel like capturing my good friend portraying that really grasped what I was trying to capture.Editing
Nope, the natural lighting on the beach always does the work for me. I edited very minimally once I downloaded the photos from my camera. In my camera bag
Aside from my Canon Rebels (T6i & T7i), I like to pack my standard 18-55mm lens, 50mm lens (that has to be my new favorite), my macro lens and close-up attachment lenses along with colored attachment lenses. I also always carry my two Polaroids because who doesn’t love film!Feedback
Just have fun with it. The beach has unpredictable weather, but the lighting will almost always work out! Don’t focus too hard on what you should do, be spontaneous & take lots of candid shots.. thank me later!
