Behind The Lens

Location

I took it in the garden of one of the grandmas here in our housing community in Nara, Japan. There are many talented grandmas here in gardening and horticulture.

Time

This was taken in late May at around noon. I usually take the bus on my way to the university but whenever I go out of my flat, I couldn't help but admire the beautiful flowers in the surrounding gardens and mini-parks around. I always end up chasing the bus because I've spent too much time taking photos.

Lighting

I guess it was just mostly natural light with some shade because of the abundance of shrubs around it. I had to sneak my way into these shrubs to take this photo.

Equipment

I used a Canon EOS M100 camera with a 15-45 mm lens.

Inspiration

I really love taking photos of flowers during the peak of spring. I like taking photos of flowers in perfect bloom, showcasing different geometries in nature in terms of the petal arrangement, and the center which shows some beautiful mathematical patterns. Nature's geometry is a typical theme for me.

Editing

I'm not really learned yet in terms of post-processing so I usually just do minimal adjustments such as contrast, highlights, and brightness. I do use some filters to create some effect from time to time.

In my camera bag

I just always bring this one camera that I have. I plan on getting another lens for it for macro shots of flowers, insects and other small objects.

Feedback

Flowers are supposed to be easy subjects because they don't move but when it's windy, it's a different story. I remember it was very windy that day and so I would just stand there waiting for the wind blows to subside so I can take a photo. Just be patient and wait for the perfect timing.
