Behind The Lens

Location

This image was taken in Bloubergstrand in Cape Town South Africa, on a beautiful spring day. The mountain in the Background is Table Mountain, one of the most beautiful wonders of the world.

Time

This image was taken just before mid-day. I remember my client was late, I was standing on the beach waiting for her watching the hours go by and the light change. When she arrived I was nervous, I fumbled with the flower crown on her head and tried to get the poses I had in mind. I remember thinking the shadows on her face would be too harsh and I should've brought a diffuser, but it all came together really well once I completed the edit.

Lighting

The light was really harsh on her face, so I had to make sure that she was angled properly to get as much of her features showing as possible.

Equipment

I used my Nikon D3200 as well with a Neewer N561 Speedlight .

Inspiration

The client wanted a different maternity session. One that wasn't in the studio, so I decided to take her to one of my favourite beaches where we could showcase her beauty alongside the beauty of nature. A kind of earth mother effect.

Editing

Yes, I adjusted the image in lightroom and in photoshop. I lightened the shadows on her face a bit, and I also edited out people surfing, paddleboarding in the background. I also smoothed out the wrinkles in her gown.

In my camera bag

I normally have my Neewer Speedlight, my Nikon D3200 with 70-300mm lens and 35mm lens.

Feedback

Make sure your subject is comfortable, especially in her condition. Take a diffuser! You will save a lot of time n edit.
