I took this photo of what we call a forever daisy in my front garden. It was alongside my driveway growing next to my palm tree and roses. I have a very eclectic style garden ranging from natives, roses, flowers and gardenia as well as a palm trees.Time
I was driving back up my driveway around 09.10am after dropping my children off at school. It was a lovely autumn morning and the sun was beginning to warm the air and the shadow cast by the palm tree was slowly receding back from the edge of the garden bed alongside the driveway.Lighting
It was a beautiful autumn's morning and as the shadow from the palm tree receded back over the garden it allowed the natural light to flow over the garden and the flowers. Because of the time of day and the month the natural light was just perfect. If it was any other month or season here in Queensland the light would of been extremely harsh and I would of needed to diffuse the light.Equipment
The equipment used was my Canon EOS 200D with the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS STM lens. No other equipment was used.Inspiration
It was only happenstance that I looked across my driveway when I returned from the school run and noticed the forever daisy opening up in the morning sun. It was different from the other daisies as the colours were striking and bold and it looked as if the flower was reaching up to embrace the warm sun. A new day, a new beginning. An emotion or feeling of hope.Editing
I used Cyberlink Photodirector software to increase the contrast and clarity as well as the vibrance of the raw image. In my camera bag
As I'm only a beginner myself in photography I have my trusty Canon EOS 200D, a Canon EFS 10-!8mm lens for landscapes, EFS 55-250mm as well as the EF 75-300mm lens for all other photos. I also have a standard tripod and speedlight. I have recent purchases of a Canon 5D MK4 camera,100mm L series macro lens and another EF L series 17-40mm lens to bolster my kit for any opportunities. After having fun and learning more about my gear and how to get the most out it, I'm sure to cull it and pass on the extras to budding photographers.Feedback
The sage advice of always be prepared comes to mind and expect the unexpected. There is beauty all around us and things that inspire us, make us feel an emotion; good or bad, happy or sad. Yes, it could be a flower, it could be a person or an event. Be prepared, make sure of the lighting and your camera settings and use the lens which will suit your need. Take a few photos and compare them. Pick the photo that stands out to you and if you can go back and tweak the settings do so until you have the photo that inspires or gives the reaction to the viewer that you want to convey. Its that simple or not.............I was lucky to be at the right place at the right time with my equipment and with settings just the way I wanted and a subject that caught my eye and inspired me and now, hopefully others.
