The reason I took the photograph, which was one of a series,was that a workman was trapped in the mud to the right of this photo and we watched for about 20 minutes while the digger driver delicately dug away the mud which had trapped him!

This photograph was taken whilst we were walking along the towpath of the Leeds/Liverpool Canal in West Yorkshire, U.K. earlier this year. The canal wall had been breached during flooding and repair was underway. I was amazed by the apparently flimsy construction holding back the water in a 150 m. section, with a similar dam holding back the water at the other end, while three workmen worked in the 'dewatered' section (as the notice said) We stood and watched them free a colleague who had become stuck in the clay mud that they were shifting during the repair. I'm glad to report that he was freed after about 20 minutes!Time
