Behind The Lens

Location

This is a photo of a very small flower in my yard. I retired to Costa Rica 8 years ago and I have indulged my love of photography to share what I appreciate about this country with my friends and family...plus anyone else who appreciates the beauty.

Time

This was late afternoon when the sun was behind me and I got good light.

Lighting

The sun behind me gave me just the right illumination and shadows for this image to work for me. Given the comments from my friends and from the attention on this site, I guess it worked for other folks, too.

Equipment

I have used an iPhone X for the last 2 years and given how often I hike the surrounding areas, carrying my phone was the easiest way to snap photos of stuff I see and am inspired by.

Inspiration

The beauty that surrounds me everyday in my yard and just feet from the front gate inspires me every day. I consider myself very fortunate to pass my retirement in this country.

Editing

I usually do some editing with the native tools in the photos app on my iPhone. I like to play with the vibrancy, contrast, and cropping. My photos are not meant to be a realistic rendition of what is in front of me, but rather I look to create an image that speaks to me and how what I’m seeing makes me feel.

In my camera bag

I’m embarrassed to say, it’s only my iPhone.

Feedback

I make images that make me happy. I have heard the comment, find something that speaks to you, that inspires you and feeds your soul. I found that in my photography and was met with appreciation and compliments from my friends which is gratifying because bottom line, I do my photos for me.
