Location
This photo was taken opposite of the main body of Kampong Ayer (water village) also dubbed as Venice of the east, in the capital of Brunei. Where there was a mass fire that burned down five homes 8 months ago. The absence of the houses gave wide view of Kampong Ayer.Time
I was on a on my way to a planned spot that was looking towards another iconic scene before sunrise, roughly around 4am. I came back to this location around 6am and stayed until the sun was in the sky.Lighting
Originally was hoping for the sky to be vibrant at sunrise, but sadly clouds role in and stayed. Took advantage if of the overcast and the lights from the homes and path way at Kampong Ayer we still on at that time it gave a nice reflections.Equipment
This shot was take with a Canon 6D, 16-35mm f2.8 L lens at f9 on a tripod with an exposure time of 6 seconds and iso 50.Inspiration
Before this shot, I was on a on my way to a planned spot that was looking towards another iconic scene before sunrise. The new wooden path caught my eye at first then the jetty gate that overlooks Kampong Ayer main body. Since houses on both sides of the path way were no longer there, I saw all of Kampong Ayer and RIPAS bridge and though this has potential at 1st light or at sunrise. Came back just before sunrise around 5.30am. The clouds didn't break as the sun rose. Only a small portion of the clouds did which was a lucky break after the sun rose.Editing
There was some post-processing with the sky and slight color adjustment to make a cool look.In my camera bag
Would always pack 3 lens; the nifty fifty f1.8, 16-35 f2.8 and a second hand 70-200mm f2.8. Camera body I would bring is 5Dmk3 and a 100D as backup body, unfortunately both where in the shop getting clean and fixed up and always wanted to try the 6D, which my buddy Riduwan was gracious to lend to me for the duration my partners were being serviced. A sturdy tripod with a manfrotto head. Filter wise, would have a ND8, CPL and bahtinov mask.Feedback
Planning and visualising the image in your head help a lot and creates a clear goal, but leave room for adjustments. Nature does want nature wants to do, and is never the same. Visit the location as many times as you can, you will come away with different looks and emotions every time. Don't forget to look at your surroundings, you may just find a gem in the open.
