This photo was taken in the Church of Spilled Blood in St. Petersburg Russia.Time
The photo was taken mid-day while touring this amazing building.Lighting
I had to use existing lighting which was sufficient and actually provided some nice highlights.Equipment
My camera is a Canon 6D and the lens was a Rokinon 14mm wide angle. Tripods are not allowed in the building.Inspiration
The murals in the church are absolutely stunning. The building is huge with murals on every wall. Using the wide angle Rokinon allowed me capture not only the altar but the surrounding murals as well. I was thrilled at how well the lens performed.Editing
The main elements I used in post processing were to bring down the highlights from the widows and bring out the murals that were in the shadows. The colors were naturally vibrant so I really didn't need to do much to enhance them.In my camera bag
Besides the 6D and Rokinon. I also have a Canon and 28-70mm f2.8 lens and a Canon 70-300mm zoom. I have UV, ND and polarizing filters and tripod as well along with the usual extra batteries, SD cards, lens cleaning kit, etc. I also have a few Cliff Bars too. :-)Feedback
In a setting like the Church of the Spilled Blood there are stunning murals everywhere. For this image where the altar was the focus it was important to make sure it was properly framed and then look at the around the edges of the frame to make sure that the surrounding murals were properly framed as best as possible. Sometimes a few steps in any direction or bending down can make a big difference. This can be difficult in a crowded, popular tourist attraction, but with patience it can greatly improve the overall picture. In this image I can see where if I'd make some adjustments if I had the chance to reshoot it. :-)
